Thursday, March 30th, 2022 from 6.30 pm to 9 pm co_atto presents meta_fair #2, moving with_in the complex: independent curating, the second edition of the vitrines non-fair, which aims to offer an overview of the research from the independent spaces active in the emerging scene.
moving with_in the complex: independent curating, is a project organized with the collaboration of Untitled Association and takes the form of a showcase festival involving seventeen Italian and international independent art spaces and projects. It opens on the occasion of the Art Week 2022 and aims to give voice to realities similar to co_atto, normally excluded from institutional events such as MiArt. Each project space has received a showcase in which to tell its identity and reflect on the exhibition concept with a free research intervention. The exhibition aims to the valorization of diversity, trying to develop a panorama of different subjects and stimulating possibilities of dialogue and confrontation.
moving with_in the complex: independent curating takes its cue from the title of the 26th edition of MiArt, Primo movimento (First movement), to question its aspiration for an acceleration of the art system. It wants to be part of the contemporary debate on curatorial practices and visual cultures. To do so, we refer in particular to the essay “Curating the complex & The Open Strike”, by Terry Smith. In the book, Smith carries out a visionary analysis of the contexts in which curating belongs. He argues that the place of curating, intrinsically social precisely because it is linked to our being together, is a “site of meaning”, a meeting place to experience the meaning and its significance. The curatorial activity, according to his research, moves in the complexity of the present, of the contemporary, to transfer a shared meaning from the “I” that produces the exhibition to the “we” of the visitor who experiences it. It is, therefore, a continuous movement of reciprocity and an action of mediation and reinterpretation, constantly called upon to confront the practical aspect of doing, of the contingent.
This neverending confrontation in the curatorial activity between the production of meaning and the practical impellencies of everyday life is part of the reality that every project space experiences day by day. Precisely for this reason, the will of meta_fair #2 is to offer to the public a wide and varied perspective of the curatorial researches which are in progress in the independent scene. The final goal is to understand together what it means to move in and with complexity, conducting an active curatorial practice.
co_atto meta_fair #2 opens on Thursday, March 30, 2022 from 6.30 to 9 p.m.. It will be open to the public until Friday, May 20, 2022 during the station daily hours and can be visited by appointment with the co_atto team by emailing coatto.info@gmail.com. On the occasion of the opening, the seventh issue of red_atto will be presented.
co_atto is the project space founded by Stefano Bertolini, Ludovico Da Prato and Marta Orsola Sironi, hosted in the 18 vitrines of the Porta Garibaldi Railway Station of Milano Porta Garibaldi.
